Tangerine Routing Number & Transit Number 2026 | Institution 614

Updated

Tangerine’s institution number is 614 and the standard transit number for direct deposit and electronic payments is 80001. Unlike the Big Five banks, which have hundreds or thousands of branch-specific transit numbers, Tangerine is an online bank with no branch network — all clients effectively use the same transit number.

To set up direct deposit or CRA payment routing, generate a void cheque image from the Tangerine app — this is the most reliable method and includes your unique account number alongside the transit and institution numbers.

The 9-Digit EFT Format

Canadian payroll and government systems sometimes require a 9-digit routing number rather than separate institution and transit fields. The format is:

0 + [5-digit transit] + [3-digit institution]

Some payroll systems expect hyphens: 0-80001-614. Both formats represent the same routing information.

How to Find Your Tangerine Account Number and Void Cheque

Your Tangerine account number (distinct from the transit and institution numbers) is required to direct deposits to your specific account. To find it:

  1. Log in to the Tangerine app or tangerine.ca
  2. Select your Chequing Account
  3. Tap or click Account Details
  4. Select Void Cheque or Direct Deposit Form
  5. Download or share the image — it contains transit (80001), institution (614), and your account number pre-filled

The void cheque image is the recommended method for providing banking details to employers, CRA, or payroll providers. Manually reading and entering numbers introduces transcription error risk.

Direct Deposit: CRA and Employer Setup

CRA direct deposit (tax refunds, CCB, GST/HST credit):

  1. Log in to My CRA Account at canada.ca/my-cra-account
  2. Go to Direct deposit under Profile
  3. Select Bank and enter: Transit 80001, Institution 614, Account number (from your app)
  4. Or upload the void cheque image if the system supports it

Employer payroll:

  • Provide the HR/payroll department with the void cheque image from your Tangerine app
  • Some payroll systems require the 9-digit format: 080001614 (no spaces or hyphens) or 0-80001-614

OAS / CPP (Service Canada):

  • Set up at My Service Canada Account at canada.ca
  • Same fields: Transit 80001, Institution 614, your Tangerine account number

Tangerine vs Scotiabank: Separate Institution Numbers

A common point of confusion for Tangerine clients: Tangerine is owned by Scotiabank, but they are separate institutions with separate institution numbers.
