Tangerine includes unlimited free Interac e-Transfers on all chequing and savings accounts. The standard per-transaction limit is $3,000, with a daily cap of $10,000 and a 30-day rolling limit of $30,000.
These limits are consistent with what most Canadian financial institutions provide. For transfers above $3,000, use Tangerine’s EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) to a linked external account — EFT handles larger amounts with a 2–5 business day processing window.

e-Transfer vs EFT: When to Use Each
| Method | Best For | Limit | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interac e-Transfer | Person-to-person; any Canadian bank | $3,000/transaction | Minutes to hours |
| Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) | Large transfers; linked accounts only | ~$25,000 | 2–5 business days |
Use e-Transfer when sending money to another person or business quickly. Use EFT when moving large amounts between your own Tangerine account and an external bank account you have linked.
How to Send an e-Transfer from Tangerine
- Log in to the Tangerine app or tangerine.ca
- Go to Transfers → Send Interac e-Transfer
- Select the account to send from
- Enter the recipient’s email or phone number, the amount, and a security question (if they don’t have Autodeposit)
- Confirm and send
To add a new recipient, select Add Contact and enter their email or mobile number.
How to Set Up Autodeposit
Autodeposit lets incoming e-Transfers deposit automatically to your account without requiring a password. To enable:
- Go to Transfers → Interac e-Transfer → Autodeposit Settings
- Register your email address or mobile phone number
- Confirm the registration via the link or code sent to that contact
Once active, anyone who sends an e-Transfer to your registered email or phone number will have their funds deposited automatically to your Tangerine account. You cannot have the same email/phone registered for Autodeposit at multiple institutions — only one bank can hold the registration at a time.

| Simplii Financial | $3,000 | $10,000 | $30,000 | $0 |
| EQ Bank | $3,000 | $10,000 | $30,000 | $0 |
| RBC | $3,000 | $10,000 | $30,000 | $0 (unlimited plans) |

e-Transfer limits are standardised across Canadian financial institutions — $3,000/$10,000/$30,000 is the Interac system default. The meaningful difference is cost: Big Five basic plans charge $1.25 per e-Transfer; Tangerine, Simplii, and EQ Bank include them free.
Linking an External Account for EFT
To move amounts above $3,000 between Tangerine and another bank:
- Go to Transfers → Manage Accounts → Add Account
- Enter your external bank’s transit number, institution number, and account number
- Tangerine sends two small test deposits to verify the account (1–2 business days)
- Confirm the amounts in Tangerine to activate the link
Once linked, you can initiate EFT transfers between the two accounts in either direction. Processing takes 2–5 business days. Linked accounts must be Canadian bank accounts — US and international accounts are not supported for EFT.
