TD Bank Routing Number Canada 2026 | Transit & Institution Number

Updated

Every TD Canada Trust account is identified in the payments system by three numbers: a transit number (your specific branch), an institution number (TD’s fixed bank code), and your account number. For TD, the institution number is always 004 — the same for every account at every branch across the country. What varies from account to account is your 5-digit branch transit number, which identifies where the account was originally opened.

When a form asks for a “routing number,” it wants your transit number and institution number in combination. The standard Canadian format is XXXXX-004. Some payroll and HR systems — particularly US-built software used by cross-border employers — ask for a single 9-digit number instead. That format is built as: 0 + 004 + your transit number (leading zero, then institution, then transit, totalling nine digits).

The most reliable way to get your correct transit number is TD EasyWeb or the TD app, both of which display it directly alongside your account number.

How to Find Your TD Transit Number

You need your own account’s specific transit number — not just any TD branch number. The quickest sources are TD EasyWeb and the TD app.

Method 1: TD EasyWeb (Online Banking)

  1. Log in to TD EasyWeb at easyweb.td.com
  2. Click on the account you need the routing information for
  3. Click Account Details or View Account Details
  4. Your transit number, institution number (004), and account number are displayed
  5. Click Direct Deposit Form to download a void cheque PDF

Method 2: TD Mobile App

  1. Open the TD app and log in
  2. Tap on the account
  3. Tap the “i” icon or Account Details
  4. Your transit number, institution number (004), and account number appear
  5. Tap Share banking details or Direct deposit to generate a digital void cheque for emailing directly

Method 3: A Cheque

The three numbers at the bottom of a TD cheque appear in this order:

Position Number Digits
First Transit number 5
Second Institution number (004) 3
Third Account number 7–12

Read them left to right. The transit number is always first.

Method 4: In-Branch

Visit any TD branch with government-issued photo ID. A teller can print a void cheque or a direct deposit form on the spot. TD’s extended hours (many locations open to 8 PM on weekdays) make in-branch visits more accessible than at other Big 5 banks.

Transit Numbers for Major TD Branches

Always verify your own transit number through TD EasyWeb before submitting any direct deposit or pre-authorized payment form — transit numbers can change when branches merge or relocate.

The 9-Digit EFT Routing Number

Some payroll platforms — particularly US-built HR software used by cross-border employers — request a single 9-digit routing number rather than separate transit and institution fields.

Formula: 0 + institution number (004) + transit number (5 digits) = 9 digits

Example: Branch transit 10002 → 0 + 004 + 10002 = 000410002

Only use the 9-digit EFT format when a single combined routing number field is presented. If the form has separate transit and institution fields, use the standard Canadian format.

TD SWIFT Code for International Wires

Detail Value
SWIFT/BIC code TDOMCATTTOR
Abbreviated format TDOMCATT
Bank name Toronto-Dominion Bank
City Toronto
Country Canada
Bank address Toronto-Dominion Centre, 66 Wellington Street West, Toronto, ON M5K 1A2

When someone outside Canada is sending money to your TD account, provide all five elements: SWIFT code, full legal name, transit number, account number, and bank address.

TD Direct Investing Routing Numbers

TD Direct Investing accounts have their own transit and account numbers, separate from your TD Canada Trust banking branch. The institution number (004) is the same, but the transit number differs. If you are setting up an external link to your TD Direct Investing TFSA, RRSP, or non-registered account, look up the routing details inside the TD Direct Investing platform — using your chequing branch transit number for a Direct Investing transfer will cause the payment to fail.

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Form asks for 9-digit routing number Use EFT format: 0 + 004 + your 5-digit transit
Form asks for “bank code” or “sort code” Use institution number: 004
International wire sender asks for “routing number” Provide SWIFT code (TDOMCATTTOR) + transit + account + bank address
Direct deposit rejected Verify transit number in EasyWeb; confirm the account is active
TD Direct Investing transfer failing Use the routing number shown in the TD DI platform, not your banking branch transit
