RBC ATM Withdrawal Limit Canada 2026

Updated

RBC sets daily limits on ATM cash withdrawals and Interac debit purchases to reduce fraud exposure. The standard limit covers most everyday needs — grocery runs, restaurant visits, and occasional cash withdrawals — but clients who need more access on a specific day can request a temporary increase quickly through online banking or by phone.

How to Check Your Current RBC ATM Limit

  1. Log in to RBC Online Banking at rbcroyalbank.com
  2. Select your chequing account
  3. Click Account Details or Manage My Account
  4. Look for Daily Limits or Transaction Limits

The RBC Mobile app also shows your daily limits under account settings. If the limit section is not immediately visible, it is also accessible by navigating to Security & Alerts within your account profile.

How to Request a Limit Increase

Temporary Increase (up to 7 days)

Useful when you need extra cash for a large purchase, a move, or a trip. RBC can increase your ATM and debit limits temporarily without a branch visit.

Online Banking:

  1. Log in to RBC Online Banking
  2. Navigate to Account ServicesManage Daily Limits
  3. Enter the amount needed and the duration (1–7 days)
  4. Confirm — the new limit is active immediately

By Phone: Call RBC at 1-800-769-2511 (24/7). Provide your account details and the reason for the increase. A temporary increase is typically approved in one call.

Permanent Increase

A permanent limit increase requires more documentation and is subject to RBC’s review of your account history and credit standing. Options:

  • In-branch: Visit any RBC branch with photo ID
  • By phone: Call 1-800-769-2511 and request a permanent limit review
  • Online: Some account tiers allow a permanent increase through the Manage Daily Limits portal

Permanent increases are not guaranteed — RBC may decline if account activity does not support the request.

RBC ATM Network and Surcharge-Free Access

RBC operates over 4,500 ATMs across Canada — the largest ATM network of any Canadian bank. All RBC ATMs are surcharge-free for RBC account holders regardless of the account type. RBC does not belong to a broader shared ATM network (like THE EXCHANGE Network used by credit unions), so using a non-RBC ATM will incur a $2–$3 convenience fee from the ATM operator.

ATM TypeWithdrawal Fee
RBC ATM (Canada)$0
Non-RBC ATM (Canada)$2.00–$3.00 (charged by ATM operator)
International ATM2.5% FX fee + possible ATM operator fee

For Day to Day Banking clients, non-RBC ATM withdrawals count toward the 12-transaction monthly limit. For No Limit Banking and above, transactions at non-RBC ATMs are unlimited but the ATM operator’s convenience fee still applies.

Foreign ATM Withdrawals

When using your RBC debit card at an ATM outside Canada:

  • The daily ATM withdrawal limit applies in CAD equivalent
  • RBC charges a 2.5% foreign transaction fee on the converted amount
  • The local ATM operator may also charge a usage fee
  • Exchange rates are set by Visa/Interac at the time of the transaction

Example: Withdrawing $200 USD at a US ATM with a 1.37 exchange rate = ~$274 CAD, plus 2.5% ($6.85) = approximately $281 CAD total, before any ATM operator fee.

For frequent international ATM use, RBC’s US dollar chequing account (via RBC Bank US) avoids the FX conversion fee entirely for USD withdrawals.
